Parenting Books
Creative Correction … a suitable title for this book by Lisa Whelchel, which offers inspiring ideas to implement reality discipline. Although I found that most of the ideas are more appropriate for older children (over the age of 5-6), I did find a lot of good ideas even for my toddlers. Each chapter has a toolbox section which is a great reference tool whenever I need help thinking of an appropriate discipline method.
Making Children Mind Without Losing Yours is all about reality discipline, which Dr. Leman explains is learning how to make your children accountable for their actions. Dr. Kevin Leman offers practical advice that is applicable to children of all ages. This book is easy and enjoyable to read. The chapter titles alone will make you laugh as you see yourself and your children in the stories he tells in the book.
On Becoming Babywise is the secular version of “Along the Infant Way” by Gary and Anne Marie Ezzo. This book offers practical advice on helping your infant form healthy eating and sleeping habits. It brings balance to child-centered parenting by offering a new approach, family-centered parenting. Everyone I know that has followed the information in this book (including me with my two daughters) has had great results. Having your child sleep through the night makes you a better mom and wife and allows your child the proper rest they need for development, making him/her a happier baby.
Fight Like a Girl, by Lisa Bevere. Today’s twisted pictures of gender roles create confusion over how a woman should define herself. In Fight Like a Girl, you will discover how to fully embrace and express the femininity God designed – and so highly values – in you. In learning to “fight like a girl,” lies a woman’s true potential and fulfillment.
Sex Begins In The Kitchen by Dr. Kevin Leman is a wonderful resource for creating a healthy marriage, explaining that sex is an all-day affair for women. With lots of humor, Dr. Leman helps husbands understand that cleaning the kitchen is just as important to a woman as romantic music and candlelight dinners.
